Summer Show 2013

Submitted by on 22/08/2013 – 12:48 pmNo Comment

Our Summer Show was a huge success especially as we were blessed with yet another glorious Devon day. Our thanks go to Dr David Evans for opening the show and entertaining us with such an amusing speech.

We had nearly 500 entries covering a wonderful display of vegetables, flowers, flower arrangements, cookery handicraft and much more. This year we increased the photography section and were pleased that it was extremely well supported, and our thanks go to our new judge Dr David Shale for his expertise in judging the competition.

The children’s exhibits were outstanding ranging from miniature gardens incorporating trains, delightful arrays of seaside themes decorated on cakes, to celebration of 50 years of Dr Who.

We also had a family fun dog show which was immensely popular and highly entertaining, both for dog owners and spectators. The judge, local vet Tessa Porter, had a very difficult task of sorting out the ultimate winners of 12 classes such as best breed, the saddest eyes, the most handsome dog or the waggiest tail. A vast array of rosettes were won and many a dog and its owner went home happy.

Supporting the show was a great exhibition of miniature steam engines which together with the tractor and wheat threshing machinery was a real attraction. Once again the Chard Concert Brass Band provided the musical entertainment throughout the afternoon.

Prize winners were awarded their cups by Dr David Evans who paid tribute to the cup winners for their wonderful exhibits acknowledging all the hard work that it entails to achieve such high standards.
