FAQ’s About the Fibre Broadband project.

13/07/2019 – 11:04 pm |

Some residents and business owners have asked questions about the Community Fibre Broadband Partnership Project. Here is a list of frequently asked Questions and the answers to put your mind at ease.

Question: I already have a broadband service provided to me through a telephone line. Will I be able to join in with this project?

Answer: Yes absolutely!

Question: Do I have to pay anything towards the cost of this project?

Answer: NO, If you already have an existing broadband service provided to you through a telephone line, you are eligible for a grant of up to £1,500 for residents and up to £3,500 for businesses, towards the cost of installation. You do not have to contribute a single penny.

Question: I don’t have broadband in my property, can I still join?

Answer: Yes, you can join in with this project. We would Crowd fund externally to pay for you to have a connection installed or you may take out a service before applications are closed to be eligible to receive the grant.

Question: Will this be a cabinet installed in the street or will the fibre be installed directly to my property?

Answer: This project will be Fibre direct to your property, so no street cabinet.

Question. Once fibre is installed, will I automatically be upgraded?

Answer: NO. You would need to contact your existing internet service provider to upgrade to a new fibre broadband package of your choice. If your broadband contract is up for renewal, you will be able to shop around for a better deal.

Question: I rent my property out and my tenants are interested in joining this project for fibre broadband …. can they join?

Answer: The tenant of the property would need to obtain written approval from you as the landlord. This would need to be submitted to us along with the application. If the landlord declines the tenants request, we will be unable to accept the application from the tenant.

Question: What is the minimum sign up requirement for this project to go ahead?

Answer: We require a minimum of 60 to 70 properties to commit and register, in order for this project to be financially viable.

Question. Will I be able to influence the decisions of this plan?

Answer: Yes, you can have a say in how this project and how the planning evolves, if you have registered in this project. You will be kept informed by email and community meetings.

Question: If you are unable to meet the minimum required number of sign-ups, will this project still go ahead for the community?
Answer: No – we will not be able to proceed any further with the planning or contract with Openreach as it would require significant private investment.

Question: Do I have anything to lose, financially or otherwise by signing up to this project?

Answer: No – you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain for the future. If the project fails, No contract will be signed, all applications will be immediately cancelled and registered parties informed. All data submitted will be securely destroyed.

Question: I have submitted an application to you, can i be withdrawn from the plans and project?

Answer: You can withdraw from this project at any time by emailing: Opt-out@connectingwhitford.org or by writing to us: Connecting Whitford Community Broadband Project, Brookfield, Whitford, Axminster, Devon, EX13 7NW. We will process this request immediately where possible. If at the time you wish to withdraw and the contract has been signed by us and submitted to Openreach, you would need to contact Openreach directly by email: communityfibre@openreach.co.uk quoting reference number: CFP-28935.

Question: Is my data safe?

Answer: Yes – the details that you submit to us in your application are stored by password on a secure database hosted offsite. The Database is with Openreach. Only the registered Data Controller has access to this information. The Registered Data Protection Officer is: Matthew Wallace, Information Commissioner’s Office registered licence number: ZA534106.
